How to avoid scams

The same tricks turn up around every big sight.

Look-alike ticket websitesThey often appear as ads at the top of Google, with names close to the official ones and much higher prices. Use the links on this page.
"Skip the line" sellers in the streetCommon outside the Vatican Museums and the Colosseum. They are not museum staff.
"Free" bracelets or rosesOnce they're in your hand, the seller asks for money. Common on Ponte Sant'Angelo, Spanish Steps and Trevi.
Photos with "gladiators"They ask for a high fee after the photo is taken. Agree a price first or just say no.
Unlicensed taxisOnly take white cars with a TAXI sign and a licence number on the door.
